The recently completed South Sligo Trail now provides access to the Anacostia Trail network. It joins the Northwest Branch Trail just west of Metro's Green Line. The combined trails cross right underneath the West Hyattsville Metro Station.
The crossing at Riggs Rd (RT 212) is very nasty, so use caution. Also, the southern end of these trails pass by some "questionable" neighborhoods, so I would recommend that you take some simple precautions, such as riding in a group or avoiding this section after dusk.
